How we update the manual
- Corrections. Small corrections that do not change the meaning, such as typing errors or broken links, are made as they are found and listed under the current version.
- New versions. Changes to the law, the DWP guidance or SHP’s position are published as a new version, with a new version number and date.
- Earlier versions. Each earlier version stays available in the version archive, so that decisions and documents that cite it can be checked.
Version 1.0, October 2026
First published version. The law is stated as at October 2026. This version includes:
- the full manual: the introductory sections, 22 chapters and 14 appendices, online and as a PDF
- the summary edition (PDF)
- ten editable Word templates (Appendices 4 to 13)
